On the Day of national memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people

22.06.2023

On June 22, 2023, the Embassy staff held a special event dedicated to the Day of national memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people, and joined the All-Belarusian Minute of silence.

The Republic of Belarus has repeatedly become the scene of the most brutal wars. The bloodiest was the Great Patriotic War. Victory in it was achieved at the cost of heavy losses. The remains of millions of people, not only those who died on the battlefields, but also those who were killed and tortured in cold blood during the genocide of civilians, are buried in the Belarusian land.

It has been established that during the nazi occupation on the territory of Belarus at least 3 million civilians and prisoners of war were killed and tortured in concentration camps, or every third inhabitant of Belarus, more than 380 thousand people were taken into German slavery, many of whom died from unbearable conditions, more than 200 cities were destroyed, more than 10.5 thousand villages were burned, many of them are together with civilians.

The investigation of the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War is a tribute to the memory of the victims, contributes to the establishment of historical justice, serves to implement the anti-fascist principle: «Never again!».

The Belarusian diplomatic mission in Pakistan pays tribute to the memory of all those killed and tortured, burned and shot during the Great Patriotic War.
