Ambassador Andrei Metelitsa visited Lahore

On March 2 – 4, 2021 Ambassador Andrei Metelitsa visited Lahore – the capital of the most populous Punjab province.

In the context of intensifying inter-regional cooperation between two countries, the Ambassador had a meeting with Mr. Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Governor of the province, during which the latter received an invitation to visit the Minsk and Mogilev regions – partner regions of Punjab.

During his stay in Lahore the Head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission held a series of meetings aimed at strengthening economic cooperation with the Pakistani province.

The main topic of negotiations with the leadership of Lahore Development Authority, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, local companies, associations of industrialists, dairy processors, as well as one of
the leading medical centres of Pakistan “Chughtai Labs” was cooperation in the fields of industry, agriculture and pharmaceuticals, including the prospects for the increase in Belarusian products supply to Punjab.

The meeting between the Ambassador and Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Punjab, was dedicated to inter-university cooperation. As part of his acquaintance with the activities of the oldest higher education institution in Pakistan, Andrei Metelitsa visited the Regional Integration Center, created with the support of the Center for Global and Strategic Studies of Islamabad on the basis of the University of Punjab.

In addition, to strengthen humanitarian ties the Ambassador of Belarus presented the University library with the books on history and culture of our nation to establish a separate Belarusian section.

At the visit to a secondary school in Lahore, the Head of the Belarusian mission held meetings with the teaching staff and students of that institution, introduced information about Belarus and Belarusian-Pakistani relations, talked with students in a Q&A format.

Andrei Metelitsa also visited Lahore University of Engineering and Technology. There he discussed with professor Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Vice-Chancellor of the higher education institution, the ways how to implement the Agreement on cooperation between that university and the Belarusian National Technical University, signed in October 2016, as well as to enhance academic exchange and online lectures in the areas of mutual interest.

As a result of negotiations the interlocutors agreed to research the possibilities of cooperation in the field of microcircuit design between Lahore University of Engineering and Technology and its Belarusian counterparts – the Belarusian University of Informatics and Radioelectronics and Belarusian State University.
