Trade and Economic Relations of the Republic of Belarus and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

In recent years, the volume of trade between the Republic of Belarus and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan ranges from 50 to 65 million dollars a year.

In 2015, a basic institutional mechanism for the functioning of bilateral trade and economic relations was created – the Joint Belarusian-Pakistan Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. Since 2015, there have been five meetings of the Commissions.

Belarus exports to Pakistan tractors and spare parts for them, trucks, potash fertilizers, synthetic yarns and synthetic fibers, tires, machine tools, polycarboxylic acids (phthalic anhydride), newsprint, baby food (dry mixes).

Pakistan exports to Belarus rice, vegetables, fruits and other food products, products from leather, fabrics, textiles, sports equipment, surgical instruments and manicure sets.

According to the results of 2019, trade with Pakistan amounted to 50.2 million dollars. Exports of Belarusian goods to Pakistan amounted to $ 35.1 million dollars , imports – $ 15.1 million dollars . The balance of bilateral trade is positive for Belarus ($ 20 million dollars).

The parties are working on the implementation of the agreements reached during the official visits of the President of the Republic of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (May 28–29, 2015 and October 4–6, 2016), Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan N. Sharif to the Republic of Belarus (August 10–12, 2015), Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus A. Kobyakov AT. to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (November 9 — 11, 2015).

Within the framework of the Joint Belarusian-Pakistan Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation, there are working groups on cooperation in the field of industrial cooperation and in the field of agriculture.

The first meeting of the working group on cooperation in the field of industrial cooperation was held in Minsk on April 12, 2016, the second – on November 16, 2017 in Grodno. The first meeting of the working group on cooperation in the field of agriculture was held on August 11, 2015 in Minsk, the second — on March 17-18, 2016 in Islamabad, the third – on February 24, 2017 in Minsk, the fourth — on November 16-17, 2017 in Islamabad.

The cooperation between the business circles of Belarus and Pakistan is structured within the framework of the Joint Belarus-Pakistani Business Council established by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The first meeting of the Council was held on August 10, 2015 in Minsk, the second – on March 10-11, 2016 in Karachi, the third — on March 10, 2017 in Karachi.

As part of the top-level visits, four Belarus-Pakistani business and investment forums were held: in May and November 2015 in Islamabad, in August 2015 in Minsk, in October 2016 in Islamabad. On March 27 – 31, 2017, a Pakistani textile delegation headed by the Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Textile Industry of Pakistan and the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Pakistani Province of Punjab visited the Republic of Belarus.

Within the framework of this visit, the first Belarus-Pakistani textile forum was held in Minsk. The first Belarus-Pakistani Agricultural Forum was held on April 11, 2017 in Islamabad. In March 2016 and November 2017, exhibitions of tasting Belarusian dairy and meat products were held in Islamabad.

On December 2 – 7, 2018, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus visited Pakistan.

In February 2019, a Belarusian industrial delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Industry visited Pakistan.

On September 26-28, 2019 representatives of the leading Belarusian industrial enterprises and organizations of the NAS of Belarus and the State Committee for Science and Technology, under the auspices of the National Center for Marketing, took part in the international industrial exhibition IEMA-2019 and opened the National Stand of the Republic of Belarus.

At the same time Belarus-Pakistan Business Forum also took place on the sidelines of IEMA 2019. At the business forum, Belarus’ leading industrial enterprises and scientific institutions presented their brands and hold talks on ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries, common interests and joint projects.
